Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza's lifetime endured several papacies, culminating with a rare encounter for a priest: the reception of a pallium in 2005 when the Diocese of Galveston-Houston was elevated to an Archdiocese. Archbishop Fiorenza also visited with St. John Paul II several times, either in ad limina visits with other Texas bishops, or personal trips to the Vatican.
